Mandatory Training
Level 1

Mandatory Training

Fifteen courses, one pathway: the mandatory training every care worker in England is expected to hold, written for the way the job actually happens. You start with the emergencies nobody plans for (a collapse, a fire, a choking episode) and move through the everyday risks that cause most harm: infection, unsafe food, lifting a person, a medicine given wrong. The second half is about people: person-centred care, equality and human rights, the Mental Capacity Act, learning disability and autism, end of life care, data protection, and safeguarding adults and children. Each course runs 70 to 95 minutes in short modules you can finish between visits, and ends with a graded assessment. Pass all fifteen and the pathway certificate covers the CQC-expected baseline in one document. This is awareness-level training: it does not replace practical assessment where the law requires it, and it does not replace the statutory Oliver McGowan training on learning disability and autism.

Training you can trust

How this pathway works. You work through the courses in order, at your own pace, and each one ends with a short assessment. Every course you pass gives you a CPD-certified certificate straight away, and finishing all 15 earns the pathway certificate on top.

Recommended renewal: every year. The pathway certificate is valid for 12 months. Skills for Care's minimum for most topics is every 3 years. Refresher periods by topic

Accredited by CPD

All of our courses are accredited by the CPD Certification Service as conforming to universally accepted Continuing Professional Development (CPD) guidelines.
