Moving and Handling: Essential Techniques

A back injury in care is rarely one sudden lift. It builds over years of small hauls and stoops until an ordinary movement, on an ordinary shift, ends a career. This course shows you what the law asks of you and your employer: why nobody should ever take most or all of a person's weight, what the handling plan in the care plan is for, how to recognise the equipment that does the lifting so your spine doesn't have to, and where this training stops. It will not teach you to perform transfers; no online course can do that safely. It will make you the worker who reads the plan before every move and speaks up the moment something looks wrong.

Course content

5 modules

What the law asks before anyone is moved: avoid the risk, assess what remains, reduce it. You'll identify your own legal duties and the risks that end careers in care.
Why no technique that takes most or all of a person's weight is ever acceptable, the harm the old lifts cause, and what to do when someone starts to fall.
The risk assessment behind every safe move: what it is for, what the handling plan records, and your job as the worker who reads it, follows it and reports when it no longer fits.
Recognise the equipment that does the lifting: hoists, slings, slide sheets and more. You'll identify what each is for, the checks anyone can make, and when to stop and report.
The graded assessment: ten questions drawn from a thirty-question bank covering the whole course. Show what you can now identify, state, describe and recognise.
