A Care Worker's Role

Your first weeks in care bring questions nobody warns you about. A district nurse asks you to re-do a dressing you were never trained for; the man you support says no to his tablets and the visit clock is ticking. This course follows a care worker through her first weeks on a round: what the job includes, where your role ends, who to call when something feels wrong, and why the care plan and your records protect you as much as the people you support. By the end you will know what to do, and who to tell, when a task sits outside your training.

Course content

5 modules

What a care worker actually does: the main duties, the standards that guide them, and how a working relationship differs from friendship. Your map of the job and the team around it.
Where your role ends: job description, agreed ways of working and assessed competence. Covers the three levels of medicines support and what to say when a task is outside your training.
Who to tell and when: your reporting line on shift and out of hours, the soft signs and near misses you must report, and the difference between escalation, safeguarding and whistleblowing.
Why care plans, records and handover exist, where to find your agreed ways of working, and when to seek guidance before sharing information about a person you support.
The graded assessment: ten questions drawn from a 30-question bank covering the whole course. Pass it to complete your certificate.
