Safeguarding Adults

Most abuse doesn't look like the news. It looks like a bruise nobody asks about, a relative 'helping' with someone's money, a person who goes quiet when one name comes up. This course teaches you the types of abuse the law recognises and the signs a care worker would notice on an ordinary visit. Then it covers the part that matters most: what to do when you suspect abuse, or when someone tells you about it directly. What to say, what never to promise, what to write down, and who to tell, including when the person you would normally tell is the problem. You are never asked to investigate or to prove anything; your job is to notice and report, and to keep the person's own wishes at the centre of what happens next. Get that right and you are doing what the Care Act asks of you, and what a CQC inspector expects every care worker to know.

Course content

5 modules

What makes someone an adult at risk, the six types of abuse this course teaches in depth, and the other categories the statutory guidance recognises, including domestic abuse and self-neglect.
The signs and indicators of each type of abuse: what you would actually notice on a visit, why one sign is not proof, and why most abuse happens in the person's own home.
What to do when abuse is suspected or disclosed: make safe, listen without promising secrecy, preserve evidence, record the facts and report, including when the manager is the problem.
What Making Safeguarding Personal asks of you: person-led, outcome-focused safeguarding, the six safeguarding principles, and why they are a different list from the six types of abuse.
The graded assessment: ten questions drawn from a 30-question bank covering the whole course. Pass it to complete your certificate.
